Biography:
Sonia Bray is a young Gija woman. She lives in Warmun and is bringing up her young daughter. Bray's mother is artist Eileen Bray and her cousin Marietta Bray is one of the best known young artists working from the Warmun Art Centre. Bray paints her mother's traditional country, Purnululu - also called the Bungle Bungles, as well as sites of significance within that country. Her mother has passed the Ngarrangkarni (Dreaming) stories associated with her country down to her and these become the subjects of her paintings. Bray has been influenced in her painting style by her mother and cousin Marietta. Bray has a strong sense of colour and line and she has quickly joined the strong group of Warmun painters currently working in ochres.
