PURNULULU- by Josie Drill & Dwayne jessell

This painting is a collaboration artworks made by a married couple Dwayne jessell and Josie Drill. Both members of families that are T.O (custodians) of Purnululu.

Dwayne paints the landscape of his fathers country and Josie makes the dot dots outlines- that are the ‘DNA’ or ‘Coding’ of the landscapes, and dreamtime stories of their land. 

Purnululu Ranges north of Dwayne’s father’s birthplace at Garndawarranginy (Alice Downs). In the foreground Dwayne has painted the Purnululu Ranges in Jack’s typical syle. Behind that the Limestone country is painted in  black with the open plains which extend to the Northern Territory as the background.

Jack spent his early years travelling in this country with Dwayne & Josie grew up in these landscapes and the homestead on Purnululu ground, she often goes there with her family and takes out visitors to share the stories passed on to her.
