Thepa, kwatja-alka Ilumpa by V.Davis

Thepa, kwatja-alka Ilumpa, (Birds, water and ghost gums)

It’s the desert with the white gum tree, it’s called ilumpa (ghost gum). The place is on my Grandfather’s country, it’s called inarnta. After the rain the flowers and trees and all grow. The birds are happy to fly around, looking for some insects. And the goannas, they come out too. The bushflowers, they bloom. The cockies are happy, after the rain they get more of them seeds.

– Kumantjai V Davis

She was a beautiful potter and painter, a dedicated Arts Worker and a patient diplomat in the studio. She taught us many things.  A great storyteller and amazing linguist in both Western Arrarnta and English.  Everyone trusted her with their words.  We had good times with her.  She was hard working, wise and always told us to look after our young families.  This T’shirt was created in memory of her.

Kumantjai V Davis, 1970 -2013.
