Claypan Flowers

This is a painting of the Claypan Wattle when it is ripe, but it’s poisonous. This shrub starts off as a light green colour and then, as it matures, it gets darker. The flowers are a yellowy orange and also get darker with a bit of black as they are fading away.

Biography:

Madeline Sandy, is daughter of Yinjaa-Barni artist Wendy Darby. Through her mother she is Martu mob from Western Desert and she is Yindjibarndi through her fathers side. Madeline was born in Hedland and grew up in Roebourne.  

Madeline enjoys painting the gum trees because it reminds her of spending time with her old people. She uses branches and leaves from the local trees to create a pattern that she can then dot in her design. She also enjoys painting landscapes.
