Biography:
Treinaya is granddaughter of recognised Yinjaa-Barni artists Allery & Aileen Sandy. She is the eldest child of Brian Phillips and artist Sheryl Hicks. Her mother is Ngarluma and her dad is Yindjibarndi. Treinaya has spent most of her life travelling and moving back and forth between Roebourne and Perth before settling in Newman. After five years when she was in Year 12 Treinaya and her family moved to Karratha to be closer to family and Country. She started painting in 2011 in her Year 9 art class. In 2014 she started painting with her family at Yinjaa-Barni Art Centre. Treinaya enjoys painting patterns, mixing colours and finds art relaxing. She has a skill for colour placement, and her paintings often create optical illusions as colours bounce off each other.

Our Culture Every year around summertime we Yindjibarndi people don’t use other instruments like didgeridoo or tapping sticks. We only use boomerangs and sticks to sing our songs sitting around a circle.
