Yalka – Woven Tie Set (Brown)

This beautiful Woven tie features Daphne Mark’s design ‘ Bush Onion’ and has been made by our ethical partners, Better World Arts.

Artwork Story:

Daphne says,

“My grandmother, Narputta used to make that painting. She told me that story. I used to work here (Ikuntji Women’s Centre) as a cook. I came to learn here. I saw my grandma painting. I learnt from her. She told me that story…Yalka…Bush food…For a long time those old ladies have been looking for Yalka, digging for Yalka, taking the fruit, cooking it in the fire. We cook them just a little bit, like Maku (witchetty grub). I have been looking for that Yalka with my grandmother.”

Anita dress, Lake Mackay blue on pink (linen/cotton blend)

Named for Anita Pallenberg, noted 60s “it girl” and muse of The Rolling Stones, this 70s style oversized maxi is the kind of statement dress that’s perfect for a special occasion but also worth wearing as often as possible. Whether it’s dinner at a fancy restaurant, cocktails by the pool or an excuse to get dressed up and feel confident, this is your go-to dress that will deliver on all levels.

This gorgeous dress features the ‘Lake Mackay’ design by Zakius Jack. The design shows the artist’s father’s country, Lake Mackay. It tells the story about a large bushfire coming from the east turning the land into a lake. The circles in the paintings stand for water holes scattered around and the lines between are the tracks of animals looking for water.

Rockholes, Angela Pants, White and grey on black.

This funky piece of wearable art is part of our collaboration with Publisher Textiles. Each pair is printed and made in Australia!

These wide legged pants are the most fun pants to wear. Inspired by 1940’s stars Lauren Bacall, Katherine Hepburn, and Marlene Dietrich, they have a chic flow to them and are so comfortable. Featuring belt loops, a front zipper fly and button fastener and deep side pockets, they are made from a lightweight cotton linen blend. Balance out the wide leg silhouette with a simple fit and flare top or play with a more dramatic silhouette by pairing them with a voluminous blouse for a Lauren Bacall look.

Print Name: Rockholes
Artist: Alice Nampitjinpa Dixon

Artwork Details:
This design by Alice Nampitjinpa Dixon depicts Takupalangu west of Kintore. This is Uta Uta Tjangala’s country, which he has painted throughout his career. Nampitjinpa paints her father’s country of rockholes (puli) and sandhills (tali). There is plenty bushtucker – mangilpa, which are little black seeds around. The road to Kiwirrkurra passes Takupalangu on the side.
Alice describes the big swamp of Takupalangu, in her Fathers country. Takupalangu is filled up with bush vegetables called mungilpa. When Alice was a small girl she travelled this country with her family. Her mother used to collect mungilpa and pummel it into dough which she made into damper. It is also a good place for hunting bush meat as the swamp is surrounded by rock hills.

Ininti at Muruntji

This painting depicts the bush seeds that come from the ininti tree (batwinged coral tree).  The tree is native to the Western Desert of Central Australia, growing in sand around creek beds. The ininti grow abundantly in Muruntji country where the artist has spent much time collecting the seeds. Muruntji is west of Kungkayunti (Browns Bore), the outstation where the artist’s family is from. Both Patricia Multa, and her daughter Virgillia Multa paint the ininti at Muruntji, expressing the colours and movement of the ininti tree and its seeds and flowers throughout the seasons. Patricia remembers collecting the seeds when she was a child and making them into necklaces. The seeds can be found in the sand, or inside the pods still on the trees. The seeds naturally grow in varying colours from dark reds to light yellows. The flowers are equally vibrant, ranging from rich oranges into reds. Ininti are still collected today and made into jewellery at Ikuntji Artists.
