Tali In My Country – Vanessa Dress

This funky piece of wearable art is part of our collaboration with Publisher Textiles. Each dress is hand screen-printed and made in Sydney, Australia!

This versatile dress features a draw string waist and a relaxed comfortable fit. Perfect for throwing on and matching with a pair of sandals in summer or layering up with tights and jackets in winter.

Featuring fabric designed by Maisie Jugadai.

This design shows Maisie’s Tjukurrpa, Tali In My Country. These are the sandhills in her country after the rain. It shows how one moves up and down to cross the country west of Haasts Bluff.

This fabric has been screen printed by hand by Published Textiles and Papers, ensuring the highest quality and longevity.

About the makers:

Publisher Textiles & Papers is one of Australia’s leading print houses. Focused on producing original patterns through traditional hand-screen printing methods we create bold and colourful textiles, hand printed wallpaper, clothing and fabric.

Treat this handmade garment with love and it will love you back! Cold hand wash, drip dry in shade, warm iron. Avoid the tumble dryer and dry cleaner.

Being handmade there may be some print variations, making each garment unique.

Biography:

Maisie began painting in 2008 while working part-time with the Ikuntji Aged Care program at Haasts Bluff. Maisie is the older sister of Evelyn Jugadai who used to paint at Ikuntji Artists until she became sick with kidney disease needing dialysis, and Walter Jugadai, director at Ikuntji Artists and emerging artist at Ikuntjj Artists.

Maisie participated with her husband and fellow artist Jeffrey Jackson in the Batchelor Institute for Indigenous Tertiary Education Program for a Certificate in Visual Arts I in screen-printing and textile design in 2017-2018. During these workshops she created designs of the sweeping sandhills (Tali Tali) in her country. These were turned into fabric-by-the-metre designs in 2021.
