Bush Flowers

The artists of Ampilatwatja made a conscious decision not to paint ‘altyerr’ dreaming stories. The artists paint their country where those stories sit.

These bush flowers grow seasonly in Alyawarr country, some of which are also used in bush medicine remedies.

“When I go out hunting, I like to see all the bush flowers that are flowering and then when I come back, I paint them.”

Biography:

I was born in Ammaroo Station.  My father was a stockman on Ammaroo and I used to watch him round up cattle and work the with horses.  I now live in Ampilatwatja with my six children.

I began painting at Artists of Ampilatwatja in 2010 and I learnt painting from my mother Milly Kemarre Morton.  My painting depict the landscape of my mother's country.  We would visit my mother's country sometimes to collect bushtucker and go hunting.  We would go camping out and sleep under the stars.
