Mala Tjukurpa

Mala tjuta (lots of kangaroos) came from north to south travelling through Mutitjulu area. They stayed in Mutitjulu and they saw the dingo named Kurpantju. They had a fight and Kurpantju killed some of the wati (male) mala. The rest of the minyma (female) mala ran away and stayed at Ulkia, a place near Amata, Elsie’s grandfather’s country.

Name: Elsie Taylor

Language: Pitjantjatjara

Biography: Elsie was born in Ernabella in 1979. She attended school there and had a part-time job at the community clinic in her teen years. She married a local man and they had one child. Elsie first worked in the art centre in the mid to late 90's, and then found herself too busy and often living away from Ernabella. In 2005, the new ceramics studio enticed her back and she has been working there off and on since then. She has recently started making her own ceramic pieces to decorate herself. She usually comes up with her own designs or decorates with a bush foods motif.
