“When I was young and little I asked where is my country? I asked my Dad and Aunty. Your country is Barunga and Beswick. I am traditional owner for Beswick. This is a story from Beswick. In Beswick area there are a lot of barramundi. Waterlilies too because Beswick is billabong country. Lots of turtle in the river. Willy willy and crocodile are my totem, my dreaming. I want to make my family proud” – Aileen.

Biography:

Aileen was born in Katherine, and is a traditional owner of Beswick and Barunga. Aileen comes from a family that practices art and artefact making. She grew up watching family paint on rocks, canvas and bush bark for Manyallaluk tourism.

She learned through patiently watching and observing and is confident at sketching and weaving. "My grandmother learning me for weaving"

She now resides in Beswick with her husband and daughter and has worked at Djilpin Arts as an arts worker.
