Waralungku Arts – Jabiru Greeting Card

“Upon twilight fading,
I chanced on a Jabiru wading,
its long spinderly legs of red,
as it wades gingerly treading
water in good stead.”

Name: Margaret Mingandu Allwood

Language: Yanyuwa

Community: Borroloola

Biography:

Margaret (Gret) grew up in the Barkley Tablelands, where her Yanyuwa grandmother was a traditional owner for the country that the town occupies. Gret started painting at an early age - she paints plants and animals from the Gulf region and also writes poetry.

“I’ve always painted as a hobby even when I was a small child I enjoyed  sketching and painting. I never realized that people admired my work until  they started requesting me to do a painting for them. Now I paint at the Waralungku Art Centre."

I was asked to do the NT Coat Of Arms for the new Borroloola Court House. I was very proud and honoured to do so.”
