Biography:

My name is Julie Williams, I was born in Cairns and raised in Mossman, North Queensland. My Mother descends from the Kuku Yalanji people of Mossman Gorge and my father is from Taepadhighi clan in Cape York. My Aboriginal name is Kija which means moon. This name was passed down to me from my great grandmother.

I have been painting for many years, using acrylic paint on canvas and watercolour paper. I also paint on ‘Burnie’ or ‘Matchbox’ Beans which are native to the rainforest of Mossman Gorge.

I work full time and I am a mother of three children, I love to paint for relaxation, and try to find the time for this at least twice a week. My art depicts my feelings for my culture and my love of the land. I draw inspiration from spending time with nature and my knowledge of traditional beliefs and stories.
