Jalbil (Boyd’s Rainforest Dragon)

Jalbil, the rainforest dragon, is a small and gentle lizard that feeds on insects. It is very hard to see in the rainforest because it takes on the colour and patterns of the environment. The male dragons are very colourful. Jalbil are spiritual messenger for Kuku Yalanji that bring us and our families good luck. We also use Jalbil as mascot for our local football team.

My name is Greg Salt, I started painting when I was very young and have continued to paint throughout my life. I also do wood carving and make 3D objects that are cast in Bronze.

I work four days per week at Yalanji Arts and I `am keen to continue developing my art making skills. I have taken part in many workshops including printmaking, ceramics and textiles.

My artwork is inspired by stories told by my Elders and has been exhibited at various exhibitions since  2011.
