Yindili

I’ve painted yindili (kingfisher). There are  three types of Kingfisher that live around Wujal Wujal.  They live in the rainforest and along the coastal areas.  Yindili is a beautiful bird and very quick! Their feathers are like jewels.  You see them flying quickly, darting around. Their colours flash by, you need to be quick to see them!

Our football team is named Wujal Wujal Yindili.  Yindili is sacred to us Bama.

Biography:

I was born in Mossman. My mother’s people come from the Kuku Nyungkul clan of the Shipton Flat/Helenvale area.  My father belongs to the Kaanju tribe of Coen.

I have been making art for a few years now and love bright colours as they make me feel happy. I  paint, print, make jewellery and love all textile art.

I have a large family, 4 children, 3 step-children, 21 grand kids and 39 great grand kids.

I love going out with the family to the beach hunting for food and having a fire with damper.
