Ngangkin – Echidna

When I was growing up as a kid and living in Mossman with my family, we used to hunt for Ngangkin. We would see them all the time, on the side of the road digging. There are not so many around anymore and people don’t hunt them as much.

Biography:

I was born in Mossman. My mother’s people come from the Kuku Nyungkul clan of the Shipton Flat/Helenvale area.  My father belongs to the Kaanju tribe of Coen.

I have been making art for a few years now and love bright colours as they make me feel happy. I  paint, print, make jewellery and love all textile art.

I have a large family, 4 children, 3 step-children, 21 grand kids and 39 great grand kids.

I love going out with the family to the beach hunting for food and having a fire with damper.
