Murnubbarr Karrolkan (Flying Magpie Geese)

Murnubbarr (magpie geese) are a waterbird found in abundance in the wetland areas of Kakadu and western Arnhem Land. Murnubbarr are a sustainably hunted and enjoyed manme (bush food). They are known to fly long distances, particularly in the wet season.

Biography:

Kodjdjan started working with Bábbarra Designs in 2007. She produced two designs featuring Magpie Geese and Dilly Bags, imagery representing her djang (sacred creation stories). Her Murnubbarr (Magpie Goose) fabric was popularised by the First Nations fashion brand by the same name, Magpie Goose.). Kodjdjan passed away in 2025 surrounded by family.
