Name: Doreen Abbott

Language: Australian, Pertame

Community: Ballarat

Biography:

I was born in Alice Springs and raised on a cattle station at Idracowra (180kms sth of Alice).

None of my family spoke english , but spoke pertame.  This was the language I have used for most of my life.

When I was young, I listened to my sister’s stories, because she was the storyteller. She taught me to understand Aboriginal symbols and in the 1980’s I started painting the stories of what was on my mind.

I paint my culture and stories and also enjoy burning my designs onto wood.

I have been living in Ballarat for a few years, but regularly travel back to my home country to See my family in Alice Springs NT.
