Name: Gavin Saunders
Biography:
Gavin Saunders is a proud Yorta Yorta man, He is a talented contemporary artist from a long line of practising artists. He has over 20 years of experience and is self-taught. His preferred medium is paint on canvas but he enjoys wood-burning, carving and creating artefacts. His style of painting is a combination of traditional and contemporary. He uses traditional ochres and symbols such as tribal markings and animal footprints, water holes and hunting grounds. He has recently been commissioned to create murals. His inspiration comes from his Country which includes the flood plains of the Goulburn Murray region and the stories which have been passed down through generations. He has appeared in several group and solo exhibitions. From 2008-2010 his work appeared in the group exhibition at Brambuk, Grampians National Park 2011. From 2011-2012 his work has been exhibited in The Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Ballarat. During 2011-12 he had a solo exhibition at the Melbourne Trade Centre. The Novotel Resort in Creswick currently exhibits his work. His work appears in private and public, national and international collections.
