Maniyotha is a rich type of vegetable that is used as the main ingredient in food, when there are gatherings for feasting, ceremonies or special events in the Torres Strait. They are very easy to plant and easy to be dug up from the kaikai (food) gardens. Best before the rain season while it’s still fresh. Maniyotha is well known as cassava. Their leaves are edible it can be used to treat a fever, it is good to boil the leaf with cassava to reduce body temperature.
