Vision of Life

This particular artwork of a rose symbolise my personal belief and is a representation of how I like to see the world. It’s the beauty, calmness and colourfulness of a rose that depict the true appearance that springs from the sacred level of my spirit just as life springs from the kernel of a stone and gives colour and scent to a flower. It reminds me of the visual aspect that lies within, no matter what you look like from the outside, if you know you are beautiful, nothing can change that. The thorns are like a reminder of no matter how beautiful, delicate and sweet something is, it has the potential to be hurtful. However, forgiveness is the scent that the rose leaves on the heel that crushes it.

Biography:

My name is Kara Bosun and I was born on Thursday Island. My whole childhood to adulthood I've lived on Moa Island, Kubin Village and I come from Wug the clan of Mualgal and Koedal (crocodile). The language I grew up around is “Kala Lagaw Ya” besides Creole and English. In my upbringing as a child, I enjoyed all the fun activities we always do such as fishing, walking in the bush for wild vegetable and learning traditional medicines, traditional dancing and singing, learning about our cultural stories, and heritage. I grew up with my 3 brother's and 3 sister's with love and compassion to things that we were taught about the land and sea during the four seasons. I love everything about my parents, brother's and sister's because they give me joy and happiness in life to go where I can accomplish my goals in the future. I have been to the 2019 Cairns Indigenous Art Far on work bases but I haven't entered art works into the art fairs. It would be a great experience to be apart of the 2019 awards for creating a belonging project based on my life and many other upcoming events.
