Palm Canoe

This is a scaled down replica of a traditional bark canoe.

This piece has been constructed from a painted palm seedpod, constructed using similar techniques to traditional bark canoes. You can see binding at the end, pulling the palm pod into a canoe form. Traditionally bark from trees such as stringybark or paperback were used for functional canoes.

Modern acrylic has been used to finish the piece, and completed using a handmade grass reed brush called Jarlk. Raark or fine line work is in Yirritja style and consists of multiple lines before alternating colours.
