Wark Wark & Gugu

This painting depicts two wark wark, or black crow inspecting the nose or entry point of a GuGu or sugar bag (native bee) hive.

Painting has been completed using a mixture of modern paintbrushes along with traditional grass reed brush called Jarlk. Jarlk is found in billabongs and wet areas, before being hand shaped to create the fine line work. Fine line cross hatching is also called Raark and is in Yirritja style. Consisting of multiple lines before alternating colour, this can be found on the two panels behind the wark wark.
