Marie Manado is a Yawuru-Nimanburr-Jabir-Jabir artist based in Broome. This design shows Marie’s family gathering on country. It represents all the generations of family, past and present that belong to that land and have lived on and been nurtured by that country for all of time.

These are limited edition garments with only 50 of each design made.

Biography:

Marie is a descendant of the Yawuru, Nimanburr and Jabir Jabir tribes in the Broome and Dampier Peninsula located in North West Kimberley region.

She has a large family including extended family that are spread throughout the Kimberley. Her ancestral groups are all saltwater peoples.

Marie has always been interested in art and as a child enjoyed being part of school art competitions. She continued to dabble throughout her adult life on a personal basis at home. She joined Nagula Jarndu Art Centre in 2020.  

Marie's art represents her cultural heritage, traditions and knowledge through the medium of print making. She is particularly drawn to stories about medicinal plants and the healing properties that Country can provide, she has great knowledge about all Kimberley plant life and this is reflected in her textile designs.
