Pilbara flowers (blue bells)

Blue bells are common in the Pilbara. It grows to a certain height in the bush and grows amongst the other flowers such as sturt pea and mulla mulla flowers. This flower has a prickly stem and every year grows wild in our country.

Biography:

Madeline Sandy, is daughter of Yinjaa-Barni artist Wendy Darby. Through her mother she is Martu mob from Western Desert and she is Yindjibarndi through her fathers side. Madeline was born in Hedland and grew up in Roebourne.  

Madeline enjoys painting the gum trees because it reminds her of spending time with her old people. She uses branches and leaves from the local trees to create a pattern that she can then dot in her design. She also enjoys painting landscapes.
