Kaliny-kaliny / Honey Grevillea

Stories are told of the Kaliny-kaliny or Honey Grevillea flower which is a favourite bush food of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara (people). Ultukunpa grows in the sandy soils on the plains. The flowers can be picked and placed in a billycan of water to create ‘honeywater’ (cordial) or they can be sucked for their sweet honey dew.

Biography:

Priscilla Adamson was born in October 1980 in Alice Springs. She moved with her mother and siblings to live permanently at Ernabella some years ago. In July 2005 Priscilla participated in a painting workshop at Ernabella working alongside her mother Imiyari (Yilpi) who is a noted batik artist and painter, and together they made a series of works depicting bush flowers. She has since started ceramics decoration and also linocut printmaking. Her early work shows considerable promise and she is keen to continue learning and practicing her artwork.

Priscilla’s work has been exhibited in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Chicago. Priscilla and Imiyari often paint together and Priscilla is evidently influenced by her mother’s style.
