Spinifex Paper A unique paper made by hand from pure Spinifex

Spinifex paper was first made in Blackstone in the late 1990s by Helen Gordon. The process uses non-toxic, environmentally safe and sustainable methods. A small grant was received by Papulankutja Artists in 2005 to employ a person to further develop the commercial and artistic aspects of the project. Spinifex Paper from Blackstone is handmade, decorated and packed in Blackstone by local Aboriginal people. They undertake all steps of production from picking Spinifex to final packaging. Spinifex is a renewable natural resource iconic of the red centre to both domestic and international visitors.

in 2024 the arts centre reach out to BHP for a start up grant to revisit the paper project that was great source of employment and pass time for artists and local workers
