Here the artist paints shellfish and mud crabs at Gariyak, the county represented in many paintings relating to the Djang’kawu Sisters’ journey. In the coastal mangroves the sisters hunted mud crabs, and baler and conch shells to eat.

Biography:

Benjamin Bindiwul Garrawrra is an early-career artist who is following in the footsteps of Bula’bula Arts’ founding father, the late Tony Danyala. Through his painting practice, Benjamin continues important cultural knowledge, depicting Garrawrra clan designs and stories from the epic journey of the Djang’kawu Sisters. His works reflect a strong connection to Country, ancestry, and Yolŋu law, carrying forward traditions while developing his own artistic voice as a new generation artist.
