Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo

Medium sized cockatoo found inland arid areas. They live on seeds of grasses and herbaceous plants, bulbs, roots, insect larvae and fruits. Their population has declined because of land clearing and cereal crops which reduce food variety. Beautiful bird that has a name that brings thought of a terrible story of my Burrundji tribe being poisoned by Mitchell while surveying, as my family one of two girls to survive, being absorbed into the Burrundji tribe.

Name: Roslyn Lockhart

Language: Paakantyi, Yorta Yorta, Wamba Wamba

Biography:

Roslyn Lockhart is proud Barkindji, Wamba Wamba, Yorta Yorta woman.  Roslyn has been blessed with a rich immersion in family and culture. Painting is just another way to express her culture.   Painting is away to look at the things loved, taken for granted or neglected with a fresh pair of eyes.  Roslyn uses art to say, what is hard to say with words.  She paints portraits and the natural world around her.
