Spinifex country & Quoll Tracks

Martu Country is dominated by striking permanent tali (sandhills) covered with spinifex, gums, and other trees and shrubs. Spinifex is a pale green, spiky grass that grows in clumps throughout the Central and Western Deserts of Australia. Some varieties yield edible seeds and another contains a resin.

Winyminji (quolls) are carnivorous marsupials native to Australia. They are primarily nocturnal and spend most of the day in a den. They have brown or black fur and pink noses. Largely solitary, they come together for social interactions such as mating, which occurs during the winter season. The quolls’ diet includes smaller mammals, small birds, lizards, and insects. Since European colonisation of Australia, one hundred native Australian animal species have become extinct, with many others at the risk of extinction, including the quoll.
