Princess Silk (Dupion)

100% Silk M/Woven 120 reed Dupion 137cm (highest quality weave)

Princess Silk is of the highest quality silks, with 120 reed woven dupion. Dupion fabric is tightly woven with different sized weft and warp threads which gives it a textured appearance and highly-lustrous surface. The fibres are yarn dyed separately and then machine woven to make the fabric. Many colours are yarn dyed woven with different coloured warp and weft threads, giving an iridescent look.

Recommended care instructions: always dry clean for silk dupion. Hand washing the fabric will cause it too loose that stifness or crispness to the fabric.

Tali at Kungkayunti Fabric – Yellow and White on Hessian (Linen/Cotton) 50cm

This design by Lisa Multa depicts the birds eye view of the tali tali (sandhills) at Kungkayunti (Brown’s Bore). This is the country of Joe Tjakamarra Multa, the father of Douglas Multa, Agnes Multa, Lisa Multa, Alison Multa, Rephina Multa, Benita Multa and Patricia Multa and the grandfather to their children. The tali tali are a short walk from where the family lived and the children of Joe grew up.

Lisa remembers walking up the tali tali with her sister, Agnes Multa, who was the same age as her. When Lisa got married she brought her partner to see those tali tali. From the tali tali, a 360-degree view can be seen of the surrounding country. The area is abundant with bush tucker, especially bush tomatoes and bush banana.

Kungkayunti is an important place for the travelling Tjukurrpa of the ancestral Arrernte women who travelled 600 kms from Ntaria (Hermannsburg) to Kintore, past Kulpitarra (Outstation) to attend to women’s business. Kungkayunti is the place where the women first camped. On their long journey, the women stopped at Kunkayunti (Brown’s Bore) to camp, rest, eat and dance. When the women reached their destination, they danced, shared their stories and renewed their law. Those women turned into stone and can be seen today. Annual events continue today to strengthen this Tjukurrpa.

Mintjinperri Fabric – Dark Blue on Sand (Cotton) 50cm

Kelly is the daughter of acclaimed artist Alice Nampitjinpa Dixon.

Artwork story: Mintjinperri

This print depicts the Papa Tjukurrpa (Dog Dreaming) in Mintjinperri, located East of Kintore. Mintjinperri is Pintupi country, owned by the Nungarrayi women. Mintjinperri is a site for woman’s business, where they gather for ceremony, using leaves to brush the earth. In this Tjukurrpa the Papas are walking around, searching for Kapi (waterholes). As they walk amongst the tali (sandhills) and Puli (rocks) they leave footprints behind them. Today you can still see those footprints in the sand. This Tjukurrpa was passed down to Kelly from her mother, Alice Nampitjinpa Dixon, who received it from her mother, Panaria Nungarrayi. Panaria, Kelly’s maternal grandmother, is from Mintjinperri, this is her country and Tjukurrpa.

Tjilkamala Rockholes Fabric – Blue and Teal on Black (Linen) 50cm

This design by Alice Nampitjinpa Dixon depicts Takupalangu west of Kintore. This is Uta Uta Tjangala’s country, which he has painted throughout his career. Nampitjinpa paints her father’s country of rockholes (puli) and sandhills (tali). There is plenty bushtucker – mangilpa, which are little black seeds around. The road to Kiwirrkurra passes Takupalangu on the side.
Alice describes the big swamp of Takupalangu, in her Fathers country. Takupalangu is filled up with bush vegetables called mungilpa. When Alice was a small girl she travelled this country with her family. Her mother used to collect mungilpa and pummel it into dough which she made into damper. It is also a good place for hunting bush meat as the swamp is surrounded by rock hills.
