Makurra is my favourite season. After the rains have passed, makurra (cold weather) has come full of blossoms. The seeds are now fully formed and have started to bloom brightening up the the country side with beautiful colours.
I paint the seed collecting because I take my children out to collect the seeds when they are ready, then we paint and make jewellery with them i also teach them the different seasons.
This was my grandmother’s country. This was where my mother was born. My mother’s country too.
Goanna. Wet season we go looking for goanna. Bush flowers, bush medicine too. Looking for flowers.
Turtles resting in the water, minding their eggs. Making sure its always safe to survive and live. Every day in the water so no one don’t bother.
Bush flowers that come up after rain on my father’s country.
I’m painting my Mother’s country near Yakka Yakka.
