Puwapun
My print depicts the Puwapun (Pheasant Coucal) found on Moa Island.
‘The pheasant coucal (Centropus phasianinus) is a species of cuckoo in the family Cuculidae. It is found in Australia, Timor and New Guinea. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical mangrove forest. It has adapted well to canefields in northern Australia. The pheasant coucal is unusual among Australian cuckoos in that it incubates and raises its own young instead of laying its eggs in the nest of another species’. Text Wikipedia

ROPE
This print is based on my father’s boat rope. Every time he went on his boat, he likes to collect different types of old and new ropes for himself. The colour orange represents a rope that has been found somewhere on small islands.

BOTTLES – 3 OF 8
This print was inspired to me when our primary school kids had their NAIDOC Celebration and on the last day, they had a pickup rubbish day on Kubin. They filled all the big yellow bags and dropped it off at the art centre to recycle and I drew inspirations from the recycled bottles and turned it into this pochoir print.
