During dry summer months our country looks so dry, but the beauty of the red earth, the spinifex and dry grass make it beautiful. Although it doesn’t rain, but during the cool weather, the wetness in the morning, the heavy dew waters it all down and the new growth comes.
It is one of the sacred sites on the way to GG. It’s a place where Yindjibarndi ancestors walked the country gathering bush food, camping, staying close to main pools surroudning the area Wayumarri. Bilaa is a small seed that grows there. It is gathered and ground into a flour. Our ancestors used to make damper from that flour.
After the rain the rivers and creeks in our country come alive with a new growth of plants . The country is filled with beautiful colours. We rejoice looking at our rivers and creeks full of water, so that we can go fishing, kids can go swimming and we can picnic with our families and friends.
We have so many wildflowers in the Pilbara in many beautiful colours. The start to bloom in the wintertime in the winter sunshine.

In Yindjibarndi country there are many different shaped rock formations. It looks like a truck has tipped a huge pile of rocks. At different times of the day, especially in the evening sunset, you will see the beautiful colours changing across the face of the rocks which compliments the soft spinifex growing through the country.
These are the wild bush onions and beautiful flowers that grow after the rains through our beautiful Pilbara Ngurra (Country).
In spring I can never get over the beauty of these purple, Mulla Mulla’s when they are in bloom along with the other yellow, pink and white flowers. This is the pink and purple mulla mull as it just starts to bloom across the country. It’s like a beautiful garden that you never have to water.
In September, when we are looking for gum from the Blue Gum Tree, we walk through the spinifex country. We pick the gum when it is crystal colour, and we eat it, or put it into hot water to make it like a toffee. We call it sugar lolly.
