These cushion covers are printed in Maningrida as a way for women to generate income whilst sharing their ancestral stories. The sale of this item helps to support the operational of Babbarra Women’s Centre as well as providing income to local employees and income to the designer’s family.

Inspired by 1940’s stars Lauren Bacall, Katherine Hepburn, and Marlene Dietrich, they have a chic flow to them and are so comfortable. Featuring belt loops, a front zipper fly and button fastener and deep side pockets, they are made from a lightweight cotton linen blend. This design by Loretta Penhall is Yultukunpa, or honey grevillea, locally called bush lolly. It flowers soon after the rain in the sandhills and has a very sweet taste. The painting refers to the artist’s mother’s Dreaming west of Kintore.

Each trinket is handmade using a pinching technique, all made using Buff Raku Trachyte, white Raku clay and porcelain with coloured underglaze and clear glaze. For Wiradjuri artist, Tarn Parker, art has always been a vessel for expressing her ties to Country and family. Her pieces often carry heavy celestial vibes, undertones of feminism, politics, and tradition.

‘The freshwater birds are looking for manme (food), they’re down the river at Benembenemdi.The birds in my design are kurrubirlah, mandjangarli, barrak-barrak & ngalkordow. My dad told me about this story, he taught me how to do painting on the rock country and bark painting and hollow log. When I was 12 and 13 I started to paint freshwater birds that I saw at my country. My father painted lots of animals like kangaroo, bolong (rainbow serpent), bird, all kind of animal. He was a really good artist. This animal is from my country, place called Benembenemdi, that place is rock country with lots of sand and river.’ – Jay Jurrupula Rostron 2024.

Based on an original artwork by Alice Guiness called Seedpods. Digitally printed in China onto 100% Linen (the very soft and floaty type). Fabric width is 135cm (printed area), pre-cut into a 2 metre length.
Care instructions: Cold wash. Warm iron on reverse side. Dry cleaning is not recommended. Fabric has not been washed since printing and there will be a less than 1% shrinkage on the first wash.

This print depicts the Papa Tjukurrpa (Dog Dreaming) in Mintjinperri, located East of Kintore. Mintjinperri is Pintupi country, owned by the Nungarrayi women. Mintjinperri is a site for woman’s business, where they gather for ceremony, using leaves to brush the earth. In this Tjukurrpa the Papas are walking around, searching for Kapi (waterholes). As they walk amongst the Tali (sandhills) and Puli (rocks) they leave footprints behind them. Today you can still see those footprints in the sand. This Tjukurrpa was passed down to Kelly from her mother, Alice Nampitjinpa Dixon, who received it from her mother, Panaria Nungarrayi. Panaria, Kelly’s maternal grandmother, is from Mintjinperri, this is her country and Tjukurrpa.

As we and our manufacturing partners, Publisher Textiles are still ironing out the kinks in production there may be some inconsistencies in details given and the finished product (sizing guides and base fabrics are the main culprits). During this period we are happy to offer a refund or exchange for items that do not match the description given. Once things are running smoothly we will no longer offer refunds and will only be able to offer an exchange or store credit for clothing purchases.
