Women’s Centre Story

The Bidyadanga Women’s Centre is a space for all women of Bidyadanga.

The centre offers a space for women to have respite, engage in activities, access visiting services, form friendships and a place where women can support other women in the community.

The Women’s Centre has been focusing on building social enterprise opportunities for the women through creating crafts and handmade items. These products give women social enterprise opportunities to continue to support their families and build new skills in a supportive and creative environment.

Thank you for supporting the Bidyadanga Women’s Centre through your recent purchase through the Arts Centre.

Name: Christine Farrer

Language: Gija

Community: Bidyadanga

Biography:

Christine (Wybier) grew up in Halls Creek. Her mother’s side and her grandmother’s Country is Ngarrawanji. Her father’s side is from the Northern Territory. She was inspired by her uncle, who painted animals and landscapes around the Halls Creek area.

“My theme is seeds because seeds bring new life and energy. When I paint, it relieves me from the overload in my mind. I use it as therapy to release the ideas that are stuck in my head. Painting is the only way I can connect to my home and Ngarrawanji Country because I live far away, in Bidyadanga.”

Christine (Wytbier) lives in Bidyadanga Community with her family.  She is married to a Karajarri man and lives with her immediate family here in Bidyadanga.
