Awareness (XVIII)

Modern times has shown that plastic bags are detrimental to the environment and may often be mistaken for jellyfish, which are a food source for marine predators such as the Waru (Green-Sea Turtle). The Waru can be found throughout the waters of Zenadh Kes (Torres Strait Islands) and has been a part of our peoples diet for thousands of years and it is important why we should look after our environment, for the sustainability of our people and our future generations. This artwork also serves as an analogy for us to be mindful of what we consume both physically and mentally but importantly in a spiritual state if we are to live a fruitful and productive life. Art Centre notes: The artwork is a unique state print, or monotype, printed on BFK Rives paper (100% cotton rag with strong archival properties). The print covers the paper from edge to edge. Signed by the artist on the reverse. Artist:Solomon Booth Printer: Dian Darmansjah Printed at Northsite Print Studio, Cairns Oct 2023

Cracked

This is a story of a turtle me and my family found on the way home from Wangaratta. He had been run over by a car and had been cracked all over his shell. We put him in our boot safely and took him to Yarrawonga vets. He was sad. A week later the vet rang us to let us know he was all patched up and would be released in a few weeks.

Song Lines

This painting represents song line through time. I have used line work and dot painting to show the ongoing flow of oral histories shared to help navigate life, some are whispers others are widely known. My painting aims to share the benefits of listening and learning from each other and from Elders.

Cliques

This painting represents community and friendship. In making this artwork I visualised the wider community and the different friend groups and families that are included in it. Each colour represents a different type of friend group, each with different interests, goals and values. I would like this painting to show people that some groups are big, some are small but all of them are important, and it is important for people to find a group they feel comfortable with.
